Experimental studies on effects of anti-inflammatory drugs in the ocular damage produced by beta irraduation(Strontium-90)

Abstract
The effects of local application of a-chymotrypsin(ACT), a-&-bis (2-carboxyl 3-hydroxy phenyl) toluene (CHT) and cortisone, as anti-inflammatory agents upon corneal lesions produced by Strontium-90 irradiation with the dose of 63,000 rep. have been studied and the following results were obtained.
1. Prolongation of incubation period was conspicuous in the group of which cortisone applied .
whereas no prolongation of incubation period was observed in the groups of which ACT and CHT applied.
2. Production of corneal lesions by beta-ray irradiation was not inhibited with an application of anti-inflammatory agents.
3. Pathological process of corneal lesions produced by beta-ray irradiation was notably inhibited with an application ¢¥of anti-inflammatory agents in order of cortisone, ACT and CHT.
4. Application of anti-inflammatory agents on cornea from immediately after the beta-ray irradiation was more effective than application of the agents on cornea after the production of lesions.
5. Pannus formation was also suppressed conspicuously by the application of anti-inflammatory agents, particularly cortisone.
